WHAT iS EYELID SURGERY?

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a type of surgery that removes excess skin from the eyelids. Some individuals may experience excess, loose, puffy, and paper-thin skin around the eyes that can cause negative physical and emotional problems. In these instances, eyelid surgery may be a viable option for those with upper or lower eyelid droopiness.

In severe cases, blepharoplasty may become medically necessary, if the skin blocks the patient’s vision. Fat in the upper eyelid may also push forward giving the upper eyelid a full, bulging appearance. Correcting these features can give the upper eyelid a more youthful appearance.

REASONS FOR SURGERY

Blepharoplasty might be an option for:

  • Excess skin obscuring the natural fold of the upper eyelids.
  • Loose skin on the upper eyelids, making the eyes look tired.
  • A puffy appearance to the upper eyelids, making the eyes look heavy.
  • Bags and dark circles under the eyes
  • Lower eyelid droopiness

Blepharoplasty can be done at the same time as another procedure, such as face-lift or laser skin resurfacing.

Insurance coverage depends on whether the surgery repairs a condition that harms vision. Surgery only to improve appearance won’t be covered by insurance.
