Your scalp has over 100,000 hairs. Each day around 50-100 fall out as they complete their growth cycle.
When “shedding” is greater than new growth, alopecia is the result. Typically, men will see a receding hairline and/or a bald spot on the crown of their head. Woman may notice thinning around the part in their hair. This can be a very troubling condition for some causing anxiety and low self-image.
The causes for hair loss can range from heredity (most common) to skin diseases, drug interactions, hormonal fluctuations, nutritional deficiencies, infections, internal diseases and physical or emotional stress.
PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) THERAPY
PROCESS:
- A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient’s arm.
- The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma from the red blood cells.
- Platelet rich plasma is then injected into the patient’s scalp.
- Enzymes and growth factors are released to promote healing attracting stem cells and growth factors to repair damaged tissue and aid in regeneration.

Hair Loss Treatment
Your initial office exam is normally covered by insurance. An evaluation will be done by our board certified dermatologists or physician assistants. During the consultation, the physician will discuss your medical history, previous triggering events and a list of family members with hair loss. A physical examination of your scalp and nails is also done to review current problem areas. Biopsies and blood tests may also be needed.
After the patient evaluation, a treatment plan will be developed. This may include topical medications, oral prescriptions, compounding medicines, and laser or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy.
